Conveniently located less than 4 miles from Occidental College, the Americana at Brand is perfect for students on a budget looking for a fun place to go! Opened in May 2008 by Caruso affiliated, the Americana at Brand is an open air mall and entertainment venue featuring over 75 shops, 21 restaurants, a movie theatre and, of course, the iconic golden statue. In addition to these features, the mall also offers a plethora of free attractions. Any given day, one can go check out the dancing fountain or ride the trolly. Moreover, weekly events include Gigi’s Farmers Market, which is open Saturdays from 10AM-2PM, yoga with Lululemon Athletica on Sundays from 9:30-10:30AM and much more (for a list of events, check out the events calendar on the mall’s website).
One of the less noticeable attributes of the Americana is its music. The tunes of such artists as Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, and Andrea Bocelli create a musical space which affects you from the moment you step foot on the premises. What’s more, regular live performance events add to the musical nature of the mall. Katie Goldberg, an employee of Free People, one of the mall’s clothing stores, describes the musical space as a fantasy world which makes you feel special. In fact, this is what we like most about the mall. TheAmericanaprovides an atmosphere that welcomes people of all backgrounds. Despite the low cost of the entertainment, the stores, restaurants and theatre are far from free. All in all, 889 Americana Way is definitely a diamond in the rough, hidden in the city of Glendale.
